Service 2009-08-22

Thanks to the volunteers who bent their backs, talked dirt, and dug right in to make a difference in their community. These volunteers really showed spirit on this hot day.
State Representative from House District 9, Joe Miklosi first approached me about having a day of service offered by the House District 9 Democrats. They invited the House District 3 Democrats to join in and soon the University Hills Neighborhood Association and the First Universalist Church joined the project. About 20 volunteers showed up and removed two truckloads of sod and debris for recycling, making way for new gardens at the home. Retired landscape architect Fran Shure donated her time to supervise our volunteer work force.

Truly, we are all in this together.  The Holistic Community Living homes will serve our families' and our communities' assisted living needs for generations to come.

Holistic Community Living Volunteers

What we accomplished

Our volunteers cleaned up the back and side yard and removed sod in the back, making way for new gardens.  Two truck loads of sod and debris were taken away for recycling. Our neighbors at
American Arbor Care donated a Rose of Sharon which we planted in what will become a meditation garden.

Working Volunteers
Thanks to our food donors!
Thanks to University Hills Starbucks for donating coffee for the work crew.  Denver City Councilwoman Peggy Lehman stopped by to bring some Duffyrolls and support our volunteers.  Thanks, Peggy!
